In August of 2015, a new player entered the market of live video streaming that may give Skype, You Tube live streaming, and Google Hangouts a run for their money: https://blab.im/! In July 2013, entrepreneur Michael Birch spent $1 million to buy back Bebo, a company he founded and sold to AOL for $595 million. Subsequently, in February 2014, the company announced the debut of its video messaging service- Blab.
Now, after gathering 775,000 people on the waiting list since then, Blab is available for download in Apple’s App Store. The Android version is available on iTunes. Messaging apps are all the rage right now, especially given Facebook’s recent $19 billion deal to acquire WhatsApp, and Blab is seeking to stand out in an increasingly crowded space with its emphasis on community video engagement.
Here’s how it works….Like to talk? [or even blab?]. Like to listen in the background and watch from the shadows? Well, Blab has you covered! On Blab, you can do both. There are many great features to Blab which will prove to be very useful and productive. Linked to your Twitter account, it’s easy to create an account and jump right in. It takes your photo/ profile pic from your Twitter account; all you have to do is come up with a catchy title for your “station” and go.
Some of the features you can expect:
1. 4 “Blabber” seats on each call, unlimited audience potential
2. Audio and video recording which can be embedded later on your website, etc.
3. The ability to schedule your Blab for up to 30 days in advance
4. The ability to clap- or give props- to your fellow blabbers
5. Community comments forum
6. Unlimited global reach
And, already, there is a new tech word emerging from this amazing app: Blab + learning = Blearning! Also- you can enhance your reach by cross- referencing your Blab on https://www.periscope.tv/ , https://meerkatapp.co/ and other platforms.
The good news is, if you missed getting in at the ground floor of You Tube, you have your chance to hop on this newest forum and get traction!
